STEP 1: WATCH OUT FOR HAZARDS
Clear the area of any stones, branches, and toys. Once you’ve got the all clear, check that your cutting attachment mounted correctly. Also, ensure you're wearing trousers and shoes, and that other people are at least 15 metres away from your work.

STEP 3: GET TO KNOW YOUR TRIMMER
Keep your cutting guard on so your nylon is always at the right length and you’re not covered in grass cuttings by the end of the job. Top Tip: cut using the tip of the nylon - you'll actually cut faster.

STEP 4: TRIMMING YOUR LAWN EDGE
Turning your line trimmer to a vertical position will ensure you get a perfect straight line. Top tip: if you want more time between edging, go back over the edge at a 45 degree angle. It'll take longer for the grass to grow back.

STEP 5: AVOIDING RING-BARKING
Ring-barking is one of the most common line-trimming mistakes. It's when the trimmer whips the bark at the base, which can kill the tree. Instead, use the handy steel hoop guard and save the trees. If your trimmer doesn’t have a hoop guard, keep the nylon away from the tree.
